Who makes the BEST BRAAI BROODJIE?

No. Calling the epitome of our cuisine, a barbeque toastie, is an insult to South Africans. It is a braai broodjie, and this is acceptable in English. It is also definitely not a South African grilled cheese sandwich, as the internet mentions will have you believe. If you can say “bye”, throw an “r” in and you can braai. And the humble braai broodjie is as essential on the “rooster” (not a male chicken – it is the grill) as the meat. You simply cannot call a braai, a braai, without braai broodjies!

We are looking for the maker of the most delicious, the tastiest, the most impressive, most memorable, the most legendary braai broodjie in the city.

You know the person – the one whose house you visit just for that braai broodjie. Whether you like the people there, whether they serve enough drinks or not, whether they use wood or briquettes – as long as there are braai broodjies, you will suffer through any punishment.
